Old Students of St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Moodubelle organize Alumni Meet 2021

Udupi/M’Belle, 30 Dec 2021: The Old Students of St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Moodubelle organized Alumni Meet 2021, especially of SSLC students belonging to batches 1962 to 1971 in St. Lawrence Community Hall on Thursday, 30 December 2021 from 10 am to 1.30 pm.

 

Following the registration and tea, the stage programme was held at 10.30 am presided over by Fr. George D’Souza-Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions. Other dignitaries on the dais included Larsen Edward D’Souza-Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, Mrs. Sunitha Kamath-Headmistress of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School, P.D. Kamath-retired teacher of St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Ronald Sabi D’Souza-Old Student, Elias D’Souza-President of the Old Students Association and Mrs. Sujatha Suvarna-Secretary of the Old Students Association.

 

 

In his welcome address, Elias D’Souza highlighted the reasons for organizing the get-together of the old students of the institution in order to have better interaction among them and to have an update of the various activities and developments that take place in their alma mater. He said that as per the decision taken in the last meeting of the Old Students Association that every year in the last week of December an Alumni Meeting of the old students should be organized, hence this was the first such Alumni Meeting.

 

Fr. George D’Souza along with the dignitaries on the dais inaugurated the first Alumni Meet 2021 by lighting the lamp.

 

Principal Larsen Edward D’Souza, through power point presentation traced the circumstances that led to the establishment of St. Lawrence High School in 1959 by late Fr. Abundius D’Souza and starting of the St. Lawrence PU College by late Fr. Alexander Lobo in 1981. While the high school section celebrated Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees, the PU section celebrated Silver Jubilee and this year is the Ruby Jubilee of the institution. He highlighted the various activities undertaken by the institution during the last year in spite of Covid 19 and specified certain future plans in the interest of the institution and the students.

 

In his message, Fr. George D’Souza said that the best donation that one can make to the society is the donation of education. He lauded the activities of the Old Students Association of St. Lawrence Composite PU College and supporting its educational enterprise.

 

 

P. D. Kamath speaking on this occasion said that in his 38 years of service in the institution he was witnessing the Alumni get-together for the first time and hoped that such meetings and get-togethers would continue in the future as well.

 

In his address, Ronald Sabi D’Souza recalled the teachers who served in the institution and assured that he as well as other alumni would render whatever help they can to see to it that their alma mater would continue serving the student community. He further said, “together we will be able to make a difference”. 

 

Mrs. Sunitha Kamath in her speech said that students have pride in their school. Teachers and students come and go, but the institutions would survive and for that purpose the old students should maintain their relation with the institution that has given them education.

 

 

Mrs. Sujatha Suvarna proposed the vote of thanks.

 

Advocate Jagdish Hegde, presently serving as a lawyer in Mumbai High Court said that he belonged to 1982 batch of the SSLC students. After completing LL.B. he started his career as an advocate. He was also the President of the Kannada Sangha, Mumbai. He said that organizations can function well when there is transparency and accountability.

 

Muddhu Moodubelle, a renowned writer traced his journey as a student and remembered most of his teachers and paid homage to them.

 

Ivan Menezes and Maxim D’Sa conducted few games. Elias D’Souza-President of the Old Students Association gave away prizes to the winners. He also presented mementos to all the alumni.

 

Devadas Hebbar compeered the entire programme.

 

The Alumni Meet 2021 concluded with lunch.
