Udupi, 08 July 2011: Pejavar Shree has said that, Chief Minister has requested him to give him more time until 12 July for cancelling the land identification for MSEZ (Mangalore Special Economic Zone) and also the appointing of the team to study on the issue of UPCL (Udupi Power Corporation Limited). Opposing the governments negligence on these two issues, Pejavara Shree had earlier warned that he will begin fasting movement on 10 July. But the humble Chief Minister met Swameeji in Bangalore on Thursday and asked for more time.
Though the government had earlier said that it will not acquire more land for MSEZ, it has already identified and notified 2035 acres of land. Seeing the difficulties caused by these to the people, Pejavar Shree opposed this action of the government and urged the government to cancel the notifications (de-notification). But the government has not buckled to this demand.
Shree had visited the surrounding areas of UPCL project and has seen the difficulties the people are facing there. So he had urged the government to appoint a committee of experts to study this issue, the problems faced by people and to prepare a report for taking necessary actions. Shree himself had suggested two members for the committee. But even after 5 – 6 months passed the government did not appoint the committee, ignoring the proposal, which was opposed by Shree.
Now Shree says, since the Chief Minister himself met me and asked me for more time and assured me that he will fulfil both the demands of de-notification and appointing the committee, the fasting movement may not be necessary, says Shree with hope. But in case if the government do not fulfil the demands by 12 July, he will be beginning his fasting movement on 13 July in Mangalore and there is no compromise in this, he warned. Pejavar Shree has also urged Environment Minister Krishna Palemar that, as soon as the committee is formed for the study on the problems on UPCL, the time duration to be fixed to prepare and publish the report.
