Udupi: Lions Club, Moodubelle Pays Tribute to Late Ln. Dr. Wilfred D’Souza

Udupi/M’Belle, 03 Aug 2021: The Lions Club of Moodubelle paid heartfelt tribute to late Ln. Dr. Wilfred D’Souza, the Past District Governor of Lions District 317C on Tuesday, 3 August 2021 at 4 pm in the Lions Seva Bhavan, Mooddubelle Ln. Wilfred D’Souza was greatly responsible for the establishment of the Lions Club, Moodubelle as an Extension Officer while he was the president of the Lions Club of Udupi in 1997. Ln. Wilfred D’Souza had passed away on Saturday, 31 July 2021.
Recalling the great contribution of late Ln. Wilfred D’Souza, Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino, the Charter President of the Lions Club of Moodubelle said that Ln. Wilfred D’Souza came from a very humble family from Moodubelle. In spite of financial difficulties, with a desire to achieve higher education, Wilfred D’Souza worked for some time and eventually continued his higher education and completed B.Com and M. Com and joined as a Commerce lecturer in the Milagres College, Kallianpur. While he was the President of the Lions Club of Udupi, Ln. Wilfred D’Souza was keen to start a Lions Club in Moodubelle. He visited Moodubelle three times in order to convince the Belleans to start the Lions Club. Eventually, he met Commodore Jerome Castelino who agreed to take the lead in establishing the Lions Club in Moodubelle.
Commodore Jerome Castelino also said that Ln. Wilfred D’Souza donated altogether 40 cents of his own land to build the Lions Seva Bhavan. While he was the region Chairman, he insisted that the Regional Conference should be held in Moodubelle which was organized on a grand scale. Later, Ln. Wilfred D’Souza rose in the hierarchy of Lions International and became the Lions District Governor. Commodore Jerome Castelino recalled the finer qualities of late Ln. Wilfred D’Souza.
Speaking on this occasion, Ln. V.G. Shetty, Past District Governor pointed out the leadership qualities of late Ln. Wilfred D’Souza. He mentioned about his service as a lecturer in the Milagres College, Kallianpur and his dedication to the cause of Lionism. Ln. V.G. Shetty recalled how while he was contesting for the Second Vice Governor’s position, Ln. Wilfred D’Souza guided and supported him with useful data and input. Ln. V.G. Shetty further said that late Ln. Wilfred D’Souza stood for his own philosophy and never compromised his stand to please others.
Ln. Dr. Neri Cornelio, present Second Vice Governor remembered his student dayswhile Ln. Wilfred D’Souza was the lecturer in the Milagres College. Later, Ln. Neri Cornelio became a lecturer in the same college and his colleague. Ln. Neri Cornelio recalled that late Ln. Wilfred D’Souza was of a very helpful nature and he ahd helped many needy students in their higher education by paying their fees.
Ln. Vishwanath Shetty, the present Lions District 317 C Governor lauded the good qualities of late Ln. Wilfred D’Souza and recalled his service to International Lion Movement.
Ln. Valerian Noronha, President of the Lions Club of Mooduebelle on behalf of all lion members paid tribute to late Ln. Wilfred D’Souza.
Floral tribute was paid all those who were present for the programme by offering flower petals to the photograph of late Ln. Wilfred D’Souza. Ln. Devdas Hebbar compeered the programme.
Ln. Joseph Martis-Secretary of the Lions Club, Moodubelle, Ln. Elias Lobo-Treasurer, Victor D’Souza-brother of late Ln. Wilfred D’Souza and other Lion members were present.
