Mumbai, 01 Jul: Renowned Konkani writer Walter Lasrado Nakre passed away on Sunday, June 30 here.
Walter Lasrado was 71. He was ill for the past one year.
Walter Lasrado was born in Nakre near Karkala and later went to Mumbai for work where he spent rest of his life. He worked for an Insurance company.
Lasrado was a famous translator in Konkani who mainly translated from English. He had translated the novels of James Hadley Chase and Mario Puzo’s ‘Godfather’ among others. He also translated many short stories from English to Konkani.
He also wrote original literature in Konkani.
His novels appeared in periodicals in serial form. He had two books to credit. His collection of Konkani short stories was published in 2017 and his translated collection of short stories was published in 2018.
He was very active in Konkani activities till last year.
