Valedictory Function – INSPIRE Internship Program 2011

Manipal, 29 May 2011: Success in life happens to the fearless and the inquisitive and does not depend on one’s background. This was one of the messages delivered to the 150-odd students from various parts of Karnataka, by Prof. YS Rajan (Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Distinguished Professor, ISRO, Bangalore) at the valedictory function of the INSPIRE Internship 2011 program held at the Fortune Inn Valley View on Saturday.
In an address that became a lively interaction with the students of the program, Prof. Rajan, who was the chief guest on the occasion, encouraged the students to pursue their dreams, as opportunities abound in the country. Contrasting his choices during his young age to the present opportunities, he said that students should explore into the future taking the past records as guidelines.
Dr. HS Ballal (Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University) delivered the valedictory address, in which he reiterated the commitment of the University towards the INSPIRE program and appreciated the fact that more students from rural areas had participated in the program thereby ensuring that the exposure that they gained will stand them in good stead for future. Earlier the valedictory function was inaugurated by Dr. GK Prabhu (Registrar of Manipal University), who welcomed the dignitaries and the audience.
Giving their views on the conduct and usefulness of the INSPIRE internship program, a few participants, who spoke on behalf of the entire group felt immensely benefitted from this program. They said that they were quite enamoured to be here in Manipal as part of the program and interact with several prominent scientists. It was also an eye-opening experience to be exposed to the practical aspects of various scientific theories which they had learnt until now, they said. They thanked the organisers for taking care of their travel, accommodation and food arrangements for the entire period of their stay.
Dr. Somashekhar Bhat (Professor at Manipal Institute of Technology) proposed the Vote of Thanks. Dr. K Satyamoorthy (Director of Manipal Life Sciences Centre and the co-ordinator of the program) was present. The five-day long program was funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and jointly organised by the Manipal Life Sciences Centre, Manipal Institute of Technology and Manipal University.
