Udupi: St Mary’s College, Shirva bids adieu to PT director Venugopalakrishna Nonda

Udupi, 01 Apr: Venugopalakrishna Nonda, physical training director of St Mary’s College, Shirva, near here was felicitated by College authorities upon his retirement after serving 34 years.
In his presidential address, the College correspondent and parish priest of Our Lady of Health Shirva parish Fr Denis D’Sa said, ‘In the past, despite students had interest in sports, there were not many facilities. Meanwhile, there are many facilities available now; but the students have least interest. It’s the reality. Venugopalakrishna throughout his 34 years of career, managed to nurture talented athletes with low cost who brought laurels to the College with their state/national/international debuts. He also contributed Rs 1 lac for Fr Henry Crasta Memorial Trophy,’ said Fr Denis.
Venugopalakrishna reminisced his childhood, struggles in his teaching career and thanked the management, colleagues and student community.
His wife Geeta Nonda, children Nikhil and Nidhi were present.
The College principal Prof Rajan V N, Assistant Prof Praveen Kumar, office superintendent Joswy D’Souza, PTA president Arun Barboza, student union leaders Hanumant S R and Rakshita R, Prof Tanuja N Suvarna and Prof Prakash conveyed best wishes.
The lecturer Sangeeta H Poojary welcomed the gathering. Prof Divyasri compered the programme. The student welfare director Prof Vittal Nayak proposed vote of thanks.
