Mumbai: Women from across greater Mumbai attend Women’s Day celebration

Mumbai, 10 Mar 2018: The women cell of Bombay archdiocese celebrated International Women’s Day at Canossa High School, Mahim (West), here, on March 4. It was themed, Push the pace of progress.
The event began with women’s creed followed by women’s anthem at 9.30am. The women cell general secretary Jean Saldanha welcomed the gathering. The students of Canossa High School presented a group dance.
Bishop Agnello Gracious was the chief guest.
In his message, Bishop lauded the women across the globe who is trying to make a humane society. He also thanked men for encouraging women in their families by shouldering responsibility and mutual trust.
Power point presentation given on different topics by Dr Angelica D’Souza, on health and survival explaining how one should take care of oneself; Naomi D’Silva, on economic participation and opportunity; Merlyn D’Sa, on education attainment and political empowerment.
Bishop honoured Kanta Nadar for educating less-fortunate girls women including her 3 children.
Fr Anthony, coordinator of diocesan women cell congratulated all women. He also thanked Jean and past secretary Marcia for bringing together all the women of different deaneries from Bhayander to New Bombay at International Women’s Day celebration.
Pearl from Malad parish entertained the gathering by keeping women busy with different exercises, spot prize game etc.
The programme concluded with Holy Mass concelebrated by Bishop Agenello with Fr Anthony.
Jean thanked Bishop, Fr Anthony, nuns of Canossa Convent, all the supporters, and the large crowd who helped to make this celebration a grand success.
More than 500 participants from deaneries across the Archdiocese were present.
Tea, snacks and lunch boxes were distributed to all.
