Udupi: Bishop Dr Lobo appeals youth to aspire for govt jobs during YCS - Zoom 2017

Udupi, 23 Oct 2017: Udupi diocesan Young Christian Students (YCS) organized, YCS – Zoom 2017, convention of students at St Joseph’s Church premises, Balman, near here, on Friday, October 20.
The diocesan vicar general Monsignor Dr Baptist Menezes inaugurated the programme and later addressed the gathering.
There were five competitions: Quiz Zoom competition for IPS, IAS aspirants, Traditional games, Bible model, Konkani cultural songs and Konkani traditional dances were organized.
The stage programme was presided by Udupi bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo.
Fr Anil Jacob D’Souza, Karnataka state YCS director, Fr Roshan Santhumayar, Belagavi diocesan YCS director, Fr Michael Santhumayar, principal of Milagres College, Mangaluru, Fr. Edwin D’Souza, director of Udupi diocesan Youth Commission and YCS, Fr Roy Lobo, assistant parish priest of Belman, Sr Usha Stella, local convent superior, Alwyn Agera, vice president of Belman parish council, Faustine D’Souza, secretary of Berlman parish council, Lydia Aranha, Melvyn Castelino, Movin Rodrigues and others were present on the dais.
Fr Michael Santhumayar spoke on career-oriented courses such as hotel management and others.
The conveners of YCS units of various parishes were felicitated by Fr Anil Jacob D’Souza.
In his address, Fr Anil Jacob D’Souza appreciated the youths of the diocese for their marvelous activities that earned them first place among dioceses in Karnataka. He urged them to be compassionate about their duties and disciplined, to become successful in life.
The participants of YCS in national level camp were felicitated during the occasion by Fr Roshan Santhumayar.
In his address Fr Roshan said that YCS has many advantages like it gives sense of belongingness, gives a chance to be oneself, creates an atmosphere where one feels accepted and respected, gives an opportunity to discover ones talents, know weaknesses and gives an opportunity to search together and deepen their insights.
In his presidential address, bishop Dr Lobo ointed out about the selection of job-oriented courses, such as IPS, IAS, top governmental jobs like in railways, defence and others, teachers and lecturers etc.. He said, ‘First of all we should have set goal in life to succeed. Secondly, one should focus energies to go after accomplishing the goal. God has given resources to succeed that should be used in our life. Thirdly, one should put in hard work.’
Bishop Dr Lobo said, ‘Out of 14 dioceses of Karnataka, Udupi diocesan youths are first in overall achievements. Three-hundred-fifty-seven students got distinction in SSLC exams. We have target of at least 25 jobs in IAS or IPS positions by 2025. We have secured 2 posts so far since 2 years,’
Prizes were distributed to various YCS Zoom 2017 competitions. Meryl D’Cruz of Belman parish and Elton Simon Alva of Udupi parish won the YCS Quiz Zoom prizes.
In Bible Model, first prizes were won by Roshan and Rayan of Byndoor parish and second prizes were won by Nisha Rebeiro and Augustine Mendonca of Tallur parish.
In Konkan songs, Shirva parish won the first place and Miyar parish won the second place, while in dance, Shirva parish won the first place and Udupi parish won the second place.
Traditional games, Byndoor unit won the first place and Pangla, Shankerpura won the second place.
Thirty-five YCS units of the diocese participated in YCS Zoom 2017 and larger YCS students participated actively in various competitions and the programme.
Fr Edwin D’Souza delivered vote of thanks. YCS youths conducted the programmes successfully. The YCS Zoom 2017 concluded with YCS hymn.
