Lions Club Moodubelle along with Parish Women’s Association organizes Vana Mahotsava

Udupi/M’Belle, 22 July 2017: The Lions and Leo Clubs of Moodubelle along with the Women’s Association (Stree Sanghattan) of St. Lawrence Parish organized ‘Vana Mahotsava’ in the church premises as well as in the vicinity of Babbarya Lake and Lions Seva Bhavan compound on Saturday, 22 July 2017 at 5 pm.

 

The Vanamahotsava programme was inaugurated by Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Parish priest of St. Lawrence Church. Fr. Lawrence Cuthinha, Assistant Parish priest, Ln. Gerald Fernrandes-President of Lions Club of Moodubelle, Ln. Henry Fernandes-Secretary, Ln. Vinod Castelino-Treasurer, Ln. Elias D’Souza-Zonal Chairman, Leo Joy Fernandes-President of Leo Club, Moodubelle, Vincent Fernandes-Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Mrs. Monica D’Souza-Coordinator of 18 Parish Commissions, Mrs. Gretta Fernandes-President of Stree Sanghattan, Mr. Chidanand-Deputy range Forest Officer, Mr. Pratiksha Kamath-Forest Motivator, Ronald Saby D’Souza and Valerian Alva, members of Lions Club and a number of parishioners were present on this occasion.

 

 

Speaking at the inaugural programme of Vana Mahotsava, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas highlighted the importance of planting saplings and looking after them so that they may grow and be useful in future. 

 

Mr. Chidanand explained the procedure to plant the saplings and to nurture them and pointed out the significance of Vana mahotsava.

 

Mrs. Gretta Fernandes welcomed the gathering, Ln. Henry Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks and Leo Joy Fernandes compeered the programme.

 

Soon after the inaugural function, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Ronald Saby D’Souza and Valeerian Alva planted the saplings in the church premises. 

 

Many of the parishioners took away the sapling to be planted in the land around their homes.

 

 

The Lions Club members along with the forest officers, later, planted saplings on the bank of the Babbarya Lake with proper plant guards to protect the saplings till they would grow.

 

Next, the Lion members planted remaining saplings in the compound of the Lions Seva Bhavan.
