Udupi: Pal Pat Nayarakere at Kallianpur in shambles; locals urge authorities to repair

Udupi, 29 Nov 2016: The local residents of Kallianpur, near here urge the district administration to repair the lake, Pal Pat Nayakarakere that is located on main road of Venkataramana temple, Kallianpur.
It was during 1450 – 60 AD, Damas Pai (Mallya), the minister of Nayak royal family constructed 8 temples in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district. It’s significant that all these temples were adorned with Tulsi on either side. Venkataramana temple, Kallianpur also has Tulsi in either side.
The existing road served as main road, while the royals laid lakes besides the main roads. The people would cross the river and journey towards Bhadragiri. They would stay overnight besides the temples. The lakes would serve their need bathing and washing.
The lake that the Nayak royals built was known as Pattada Nayakarakere and gradually called as Pal Pat Nayakanakere.
The lake that existed for 400 – 500 years and was used till 50 years is now in shamble.
The lake that was reconstructed three-and-a-half-years ago with state funds under Swarna Rural Development Project. Despite spending several lac of rupees, its one portion was collapsed 2 years ago. It was restored, but collapsed during the monsoon.
The locals urge the district administrations to better utilize taxpayers money in repairing the lake that would serve the people for many more years.
