Udupi: Public celebration of Ganeshotsav fosters harmony - Violet

Udupi, 09 Sep 2016: The freedom fighter Balagangadar Tilak who began the public celebration of Ganeshotsav in Pune in the pre-independence era to unite the people of different culture, and faith for achieving the common goal of freedom, is being celebrated across the nation now. It’s the symbol of communal harmony, said social activist and Shirva gram panchayat member Violet Castelino.
Violet was the chief guest during the Ganeshotsav celebration that was held at Bantakal, on Thursday September 8.
The intellectual Pundalika said that Ganeshotsav celebrations indeed rekindles patriotism, gives fillip to Indian culture and fosters brotherhood among people of different faith and cultures.
Ganeshotsav Committee president Madhav Kamat felicitated Srikant Heroor, Vasudas, Dinesh Arasikatte, Madhav Acharya Heroor, Ramesh Arasikatte and Alwyn Saldanha for their contribution in staging the celebrations.
The honorary president Bantakal Shankar Nayak welcomed the gathering and delivered the preliminary address.
The prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions.
The vice president Shivaraj, Manjunat Poojary, Harish Heroor, Suresh Kallugudde were present.
Madhav Acharya compered the programme. Dinesh Devadiga proposed vote of thanks.
