Shirva: Pangala Vittala Shenoy (89) passed away

Shirva, 28 February 2011: Senior educationist, freedom fighter, social worker, Pangala Vittala Shenoy (89 years) passed away on Sunday 27th February in Manipal K.M.C. Hospital after a brief illness. Pangala Vittala Shenoy has been active in almost every field including education, social, religious, cultural, spiritual and so on. He was one of the founders for the Shirva Rotary Club in 1970.
After his retirement from Innanje Pre University College, he became the first Head Master at the Shankarapura High School, later through Pangala Vidhyavardhaka Sangha involved in the starting of the High School. He also involved in the development activities of Katapadi Education Society, Temple Trust, Pangala Alade Kshethra and Shri Janardhana Temple.
He was also a role model in agriculture, an artist, contributor in drama, founder Secretary of Syndicate Krishi Prathistana. He was also the first to organize more that 450 Krishi Sanghas at High Schools giving agricultural education to students. He has also created more than 30 social, historical dramas in Konkani, Tulu, Kannada, Sanskrit and English. Has written many books in the field of arts.
He has been a great contributor in Rotary Club and was being called as “Rotary Bheeshma”. Udupi administration had honoured him by awarding him “Suvarna Karnataka Rajyothsava”. He has left behind 3 sons, 4 daughters, many fans and wel wishers. Upon his passing away, Rotary District Governer Jnanavasanth Shetty, Senior doctor of Shirva Dr. K. R. Venkatakrishna, Rotary Clubs of Shirva, Shankarapura, Katapadi have all expressed their condolences.
