Pope Francis elevates St Lawrence Shrine at Attur as minor basilica

Udupi, 20 May 2016: St Lawrence Shrine at Attur, Karkala has been elevated to the status of a minor basilica by Pope Francis through the sacred congregation for the divine worship and discipline of sacraments, Vatican, Rome, it is gathered.

 

 

Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Msgr Baptist Menezes, Fr George D’Souza the rector of the shrine and his team of priests and lay leaders with the shrine committee had helped in the documentation work.

 

St Lawrence Shrine is in Udupi diocese and is a famous place for the devotion for decades. Devotees from all faiths visit this place which is known for miracles.
