Udupi: Stories, Poems and Literature are important for the survival of Language

Udupi, 14 February 2011: “Through the stories, poems and literatures, which generate interest, show values of life and also provides relaxation to the minds, the languages can be kept alive, hence the stories, poems and literature are important for the survival of language” said Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academi member B. Pundalika Marathe Shirva. He was talking upon inaugurating the “Kavana Rachana Training and Bahu Basha Kavighosti” program by lighting the lamp at Alvoor Ambedkar Bhavana on Sunday. The program was jointly organized by Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academi and Mangala Kala Sahithya Vedhike Karvalu.

 

He said “environement, nature and life experience will influence the mind; the painful and happy moments of family life will inspire to create the literature. And once the attractive writing style is adopted then along with the language the literature will also grow together. Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academi encourages the emerging poets and authors by providing them the platforms so that the language, culture and traditional values are preserved.

 

Chief guest Alevoor Dinesh Kini – President of Udupi District Active Journalist Sangha in his speech said that in Konkani Janapada sahithya the proverbs and the quotes are very effective even today and he explained them through examples. Lidwine Pinto – Vise President of Konkani Bhasha Mandali spoke on the occasion and said that the mother tongue and the regional languages are twin languages, and provision to learn Kannada until 5th standard in schools should be made compulsory. English and other languages should be given the next preference. If the mother tongue is spoken at home then only the Konkani language will be preserved.

 

 

Suhan Sastan – President of Udupi Jasees spoke on the occasion and said that, let us respect all the languages, but let us love our mother tongue by practicing it. Dr. Subhrahmanya J. Sunnangoor – Principal of Udupi Morarji Desai P.U. College who participated in the training as the material resource person, spoke on the occasion and said that the understanding of language and culture is to be utilized and adopting the meaning, style, grammer, simplicity the poems are to be created, which will improve the quality. He also explained the relation between the title and the poem.

 

In the conference of the poets, emerging poet journalist Balakrishna Shibarla described a picture on lifestyle. Popular cartoonist Gopi Hirebettu presented some poems full of comedy. Various poems were  presented by poets Basavaraj Kundapura, Poornima Suresh Nayak, Lawyer Uday Brahmavar, Vandana Bangalore, Shubhalakshmi Thenkanidiyoor were all interesting and inspiring.

 

B. Pundalika Marathe and Dr. Subrahmanya J. Sunnangoor appreciated all the emerging poets and honoured them with mementos. Raghavendra Prabhu Karvalu – President of Mangala Kala Sahithya Vedhike, compeered the program and also proposed vote of thanks. Grama Panchayath member Sunanda and Raghavendra K. were on the dias on this occasion. Shakunthala – Coordinator of Jnanavikasa Kendra, welcomed the gathering. Exibition of the cartoons of popular cartoonist Gopi Hirebettu was arranged. Shrikshethra D. Gramina Yojane and Ohmshakthi Jnanavikasa Kendra Alevoor also coordinated in organizing this program.
