- Achievers work only with a dream of serving society, says VC
Mangalore, 14 February 2011: The Sandesha Awards 2011 were presented to 10 oustanding achievers in various fields at a programme organised at the Sandesha Foundation For Culture and Education premises here on Sunday.
In his felicitation address, Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy said that one can become an achiever only through hard work, sincerity, dedication and emotional commitment towards his goal in life. “A real achiever would never aspire to bag awards in his life. Achievers are those who work only with a dream of serving the society. Those who are attached to their emotional commitments can achieve success in his goals,” he said.
The purpose of education is not only to impart knowledge, but it has several other roles to play in the development of culture, society, economy and spirituality, Murthy said.
He lamented that several institutions in the City have commercialised the education sector. “Art has been considered as a property of the rich. Those who are really talented but poor are not in a position to pursue education in Art streams,” he said and lauded the efforts of Sandesha Foundation for promoting art. Talking about the advancement in the Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering and other science branches, Murthy said, “scientists can diagnose a possible disease in advance through a genetic analysis, but at the same time the revolutionary changes in the scientific world has made life of people mechanical.”
Acknowledging the feliciation extended to him, noted Kannada Litterateur Saa Shi Marulayya said that art and science are compared to heart and lungs. “Art and science are as important as heart and lungs for a man. People cannot ignore art and science in the modern world of globalisation,” he noted.
