Udupi/M’belle: Alphonse Alva elected as the President of Parents-Teachers Association

Udupi, 30 Jun 2015: Alphonse K. Alva, a renowned businessman and Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle was unanimously elected as the President of the Parents-Teachers Association(PTA) of St. Lawrence PU College for two years term (2015-17) at a meeting held on Tuesday, 30 June 2015 at 1.30 pm in St. Lawrence PU College.
Prior to the election of the President, Vice President and committee members of the PTA for the years 2015-17, a formal meeting of the PTA was held with the outgoing president, Joseph Martis presiding over the meeting. The chief guest and resource person B.C. Rao Shivapura, Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence PU College and Mrs. Leena D’Silva, Senior Teacher of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School were on the dais.
Follwing the welcome by Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira, Valerian Crasta, the Joint Secretary of the PTA read the report of the PTA for the year 2014-15 and also presented the accounts for the same year.
Mrs. Chandrakala introduced the chief guest and resource person of the day, B.C. Rao Shivapura, retired headmaster of higher primary school at Shivapura and eminent thinker, journalist, Harikatha presenter and motivational speaker.
In his address to the parents and teachers, B.C. Rao Shivapura said that it is not enough to educate the children to earn money when they complete their education but to raise them as responsible human beings. In modern times education has become a business, children have become commodity and teachers have become workers. He emphasized on value education and stressed the fact that the parents have a greater responsibility in providing healthy atmosphere at home so that the children are prepared to take the right kind of education. Through various examples, B.C. Rao pointed out the ways and means to provide the necessary foundation to the children in the task of educating them. He also advised the teachers as to how they should treat the students in and outside the classrooms.
Meritorious and needy students were given cash incentives to help them in carrying out their education.
The outgoing President of the PTA, Joseph Martis expressed gratitude to all those who had cooperated with him in fulfilling his duties as the President of the PTA for the last two years.
Next, the election for the PTA for the year 2015-16 was conducted. Alphonse K. Alva was unanimously elected as the President for the two years term (2015-17).
