Udupi, 13 Oct 2023: During the Diwali festival, the District Collector Dr. K. Vidyakumari suggested that during Diwali festival, temporary firecracker shops will be allowed to open temporary firecracker shops by identifying suitable places, taking precautionary measures so that public traffic is not affected.
She was recently presiding over a meeting held at his office hall at Manipal Rajatadri in the city to allow opening of makeshift firecracker shops during Diwali festival in the district.
Before giving permission for opening of firecracker shops, the deputed officials should personally inspect the areas where the shops are to be opened. She said that opening firecracker shops should not be allowed if it is found that there is a problem with the traffic system near shop fronts and in densely populated areas.
She informed that a committee will be formed in the Karkala and Kundapur Municipalities and allotment of space is done by drawing tickets. Officers posted in the low-lying area identified the location and told them to distribute it to the people running the business. In opening firecracker shops in Malpe, Santhekatte, Beedinagudde, MGM, Manipal and Ambalapadi areas of Udupi City Council, the officials assigned to the areas with low population density where parking is allowed without disturbing the traffic system were told to identify the place and allocate it to the people running the business.
Applications seeking permits can be submitted by October 16. She asked the concerned departments to get the reports soon and dispose of the applications.
Additional Collector Mamata Devi GS, ASP Siddhalingappa, Municipal Commissioner Rayappa, Taluk Tahsildars, Heads of local bodies and others were present in the meeting.
