Bantwal, 22 Dec 2021: The local villagers lay seizure to workmen at Naduvalacchil, at the limits of Veerakamba forest range, near here on Monday, December 21, who have arrived to identify the spots to erect power transmission towers to lay controversial Udupi – Kasargod power lines.
The locals were agitated when about 10-15 people arrived in cars at their village to undertake a survey to lay transmission lines at the jurisdiction of Veerakamba forest range.
Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik had sought the intervention of Karnataka energy minister V Sunil Kumar, when the latter arrived on an official visit to Mini Vidhan Souda a few days ago. The minister had replied that the works on the above transmission line was stalled and future course of action will be taken only after consulting the stakeholders’ farmers. However, the farmers are furious as the survey teams who have arrived to undertake their task secretly.
Vittal police demanded a proper reply from the survey team, while the forest department official who arrived at the spot said that the survey team arrived with the official letter issued by DK district administration in this regard.
