Mangaluru, 30 Jun 2020: Dakshina Kannada district Congress committee (DCC) staged a protest at Town Hall, here on Monday, June 29, against union government for hiking petrol and diesel prices by Oil Majors.
Addressing the protestors, DCC president Harish Kumar, said, "The prices of petrol and diesel are hiking continuously since the last 15 days. After BJP came to power, the poor are in deep trouble. Promises made by the BJP, have been forgotten by its leaders now. Covid pandemic has been spreading fast; the country is facing an economic crisis. We have never ever witnessed daily hikes of petrol and diesel prices like this,’ said Kumar.
Kumar also said, ‘When Veerappa Moily was the union petroleum minister, even when the price was hiked by 50 paisa per liter, these BJP leaders were seen protesting against the UPA government. The current union government is anti-poor and the rise in prices of petrol and diesel has overburdened the people. PM Narendra Modi’s 56 inch chest has shrunk to 26 inch now. The government has even failed to tackle the Corona virus pandemic that has spread all over the country,’ said Kumar.
District youth congress president, Mitun Rai, said, ‘When the petrol price was Rs 60, BJP leaders had staged a protest. Today the price of petrol and diesel are equal, which has turned out to be burdensome for the poor and middle class. The Prime Minister has an agent, Chakravarthi Sulibele, who can be called ’Sullina Chakaravarthi’ because he comes out with speeches full of lies. If Chakaravarthi Sulibele comes to Mangaluru and is seen delivering such speeches full of lies, Congress will definitely pour black ink on him,’ said Rai.
Former MLC Ivan D Souza, said, ‘The government has never been in favour of people as there is steep rise in petrol and diesel prices for a continuous period of 15 days and the government is running Hitler like model of administration,’ said D’Souza.
Earlier, the district youth Congress led by its president, Mitun Rai carried out a bicycle rally from Jyoti circle to city Town Hall.
