Udupi, 29 Oct 2017: Deepavali is the festival of light that shuns ignorance, fosters brotherhood and humanity, said Fr Denis D’Sa, Udupi diocesan PRO and parish priest of St Antony’s parish, Kuntalnagar, near here.
Dr Denis was speaking after inaugurating Deepavali celebration that was organized by Rotary Club – Shirva at Rotary Auditorium, Bantakal, near here, on Friday, October 27.
He also commended the good deed of Rotary in honoring the civic workers during the Deepavali celebration.
The civic workers of Shirva gram panchayat – Babu Koraga and Sumati couple, Shekar and Netra couple, Umesh and Vasant were honored on the occasion of sixtieth birth anniversary of Rotary senior member and journalist B Pundalika Marate, by adoring Mysuru headgear, draping shawl, presented with sari and fruits.
Shirva gram panchayat member K Ramaraya Patkar was present.
Speaking on the occasion, Pundalika Marate lauded the services of civic workers in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.
Pundalika and Usha Marate couple were felicitated by Rotary Club – Shirva during the programme, on the occasion of celebrating diamond jubilee of Pundalika.
Rotary former assistant governor K Subramanya Basri offered info about the significance of celebrating Deepavali, its religious and social background and delivered Deepavali message.
Rotary Club – Shirva president Hasanabba Shaikh welcomed the gathering and presided the programme. The secretary Vishnumurti Saralaya proposed vote of thanks.
The programme concluded with sumptuous food and Deepavali sweets.
