Mangaluru, 29 Sep 2017: Karnataka forests and Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai urged union aviation minister P Ashok Gajapati Raju to provide adequate security at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) and also safety of aircrafts both landing and taking off from MIA.
In a letter to union aviation minister Ashok, Karnataka minister Ramanath cited the dangerous situation that occurred when Air India flight to Doha carrying 173 passengers from MIA faced engine trouble recently. In another such incident, Air India flight carrying 185 passengers skidded whilst landing at MIA. The memories of Air India flight carrying 160 passengers crashed in 2008 is still fresh in the minds of victims families. The frequent passengers travelling from MIA are worried for their safety owing to aforementioned situations.
He urged union minister Ashok to look into the issue personally in providing adequate security at MIA and also to schedule new aircrafts for flights to and from MIA.
