Mangaluru, 28 Jun 2017: Dakshina Kannada district health officer Dr Ramakrishna Rao, appealed the parents to keep a watch on their children’s outdoor activities as of late more teenagers are attracted towards drugs.
Dr Rao was speaking during International anti-drugs/smuggling Day that was organized by Dakshina Kannada district administration, ZP, district legal services Authority, health and family welfare department (psychiatry unit), town and district police department, public instructions department, information and public relations department, Bar Association in association with district Wenlock Hospital, here, at their auditorium, here on Wednesday, June 28.
The boys studying in Class VIII to II PUC are easy targets as the have wavering minds. They get hooked to drugs by their peers for fun and become addicted jeopardizing their future, said Dr Rao. He also advised the parents to monitor their children’s outdoor activities to save them from waywardness.
Third additional district and sessions judge Muralidar Pai after inaugurating the programme said, ‘More youth are addicted to drugs owing to many causes recently. If this continues, drug addicts are capable of indulging in anti-social activities for want of money. The expectations of parents on their children go awry. These kinds of programmes in collaboration with all department indeed will sensitize youth about the perils of drug abuse,’ said Pai.
In the presidential address, district Wenlock Hospital medical superintendent Dr Rajeshwari Devi urged the people to avail the healthcare services that are offered at the separate drug addicts’ rehabilitation unit located in Wenlock Hospital.
Srinivas Medical College psychiatrist Dr Caroline delivered the lecture on drug abuse.
The senior civil judge Mallana Gowda, Karnataka pre-university department deputy director Timmayya, Dr Jayant, Bar Association vice president Pushpalata, secretary Dinakar Shetty, ACP Uday Nayak and others were present.
The district leprosy and blind control officer Dr Ratnakar welcomed the gathering. The district health education officer Jyoti proposed vote of thanks. Jayaram Poojary compered the programme.
Earlier, the students held a rally from Ganapathi PU College, to Wenlock Hospital.
