Udupi, 08 May 2017: A wedding party that was returning after the celebration in a tourist tempo traveler overturned because of the reckless driving of its driver near Pilarkana – Gundupade, between Shirva – Belman Road, here on Sunday, May 7 afternoon.
The wedding party of Bhoja Kulal’s daughter, residing near Innanje, near Shankerpura, here was returning after the celebrations held at Sri Krishna Auditorium, Belman, near here, when the tourist tempo overturned near Pilarkana – Gundupade, here on Sunday at 3.00pm. As a result passenger 25-year-old Sunil passed away and 4 passengers are in critical condition.
The volunteers of Shirva and Belman have rushed to take the injured women and children in state-run ambulance service 108 and also taken others in private vehicles to hospitals in Udupi town for first-aid. It took more than an hour to take the passengers out of the entangled tempo.
The traffic was disrupted for nearly one-and-a-hour and restored to normal traffic by Shirva police and volunteers of different organizations.
The over speeding by the tempo driver was the culprit, despite an elderly passenger plead him to drive carefully. The driver seems to have said that he was already late for next assignment and was over speeding to catch up the time.
Meanwhile, the other motorists especially young men and women arrived in other vehicles were found clicking pics of tragedy in their mobiles, amidst the wailing of passengers entangled in the tempo. It seemed the humanity is waning in the midst of crisis.
