Udupi, 28 Dec 2016: ‘The society segregates festivals on the basis of respective communities that are unjustified. The feasts/festivals should promote oneness and brotherhood. It should bring hope to all. The festivities get significance by involvement of all in the society. Its irony that festivities are restricted to a specific community thereby losing the true meaning of festivities,’ said Professor Vincent Alva Padubelle.
Professor Vincent was speaking during Christmas get-together that was organized jointly by Rotary Club – Shirva and Valadoor Welfare Association®, at progressive pineapple farmer Ronald Mark D’Souza, a native of Kodugudde, Shirva, near here, on Tuesday, December 27.
Fr Mahesh D’Souza and Fr Canute Noronha, assistant parish priests of Our Lady of Health parish, Shirva and Sr Leticia presented Christmas carols, while the parish choir presented variety cultural shows.
Valadoor Welfare Association secretary Prasad Shetty was present.
Rotary Club – Shirva president Dr Arun D’Souza welcomed the gathering. The past president Melvyn D’Souza compered the programme. The secretary Sunil Cabral proposed vote of thanks. Jacinta D’Souza and Sukesh Poojary Valadoor conducted games.
