Mangaluru, 07 Dec 2016: Paying for your auto ride with your mobile wallet is now an option in Mangaluru. To beat the prevailing cash crunch, many auto drivers in Mangaluru have embraced Paytm, a mobile wallet. On Tuesday, seven autos hit the roads with Paytm payment system on a trial basis. In the coming days, the wallet option will be extended to more than 200 autos, as it’s been well received by auto drivers.
Ashok Shetty, Kudla Souharda Sahakari director and autorickshaw union leader, said moving to cashless payment is a contribution to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of Digital India. The union has written to the authorities and sought permission from the RTA.
The technology is provided by a local IT service company and drivers are given an orientation on how to use it. "Since many of the drivers are not tech-savvy , we decided to educate them on cashless payments," he added.
