Karkala, 01 Dec 2016: The children are easily lured into tobacco consumption that has evil effects on their future. They will lose money and health with bleak future. The healthy and enlightened children are the national asset. The healthy society will prevail if the children keep away from ill habits in their childhood; engage in good thoughts to become worthy citizens of our country, said Udupi ZP member Reshma Udayakumar Shetty.
Reshma was speaking during Anti-Tobacco Day jointly held organized by St Joseph’s Kannada and English Medium Schools, Belman, here on Wednesday, November 30.
Belman gram panchayat president Mallika Rao in her presidential address called on the students to keep away from tobacco and sensitize people on evils of tobacco.
TP member Asha Devendra Shetty, PHC resident medical officer Dr Gurudutt, junior health assistant Prashant Kumar, head teachers Sr Lucy Pereira and Anita Kamalini were present at the dais.
The high school student Pratiksha offered info about the evils of tobacco.
The senior teacher B Pundalika Marate compered the programme. Kannada teacher Chandrashekar proposed vote of thanks.
The students held a rally with placards and presented roses to the shopkeepers in Belman town, urging them not to sell tobacco products.
