Karkala, 28 Oct 2016: Don Bosio Convent, Belman, here is at the threshold of celebrating golden jubilee on Saturday, October 29. The convent is located at the limits of St Joseph’s parish, Belman.
Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo of Udupi will concelebrate the Thanksgiving Mass along with many clergies, nuns and religious.
The superior of Convent, nuns and Belman parish council are working on preparations for the stage event.
The nuns of Sisters of Charity first set their foot in Belman 1966 upon the invitation of Fr Nicholas Pereira, parish priest of Belman. The Superior General Theresagi Jawra deputed 3 nuns to teach in St Joseph’s higher Primary School, Belman. Since then, they are serving in the schools and also serve as succor to poor families.

They are also serving as teachers in St Joseph’s High School, Belman that was opened in 1982 at the leadership of parish priest Fr Lawrence Gomes. Sr Moura who was serving as head teacher in St Joseph’s Higher Primary School, Belman bagged National Top Teacher Award in 1991 – 92. The Sisters of Charity are also teaching in St Joseph’s English Medium School, Belman that was opened at the leadership of Fr Lawrence B D’Souza in 2012.
Sr Christita Monteiro, Sr Amatonita Menezes, Sr Lilliya Pinto, Sr Alberta D’Silva, Sr Ambrosia Rodrigues, Sr Valentine Menezes, Sr Milena D’Souza, Sr Silvestrina Lobo, Sr Gracy Joseph and Sr Grasia D’Souza, served as superiors of Don Bosio Convent. Sr Usha Stella D’Souza is the reigning superior now.
