Bantwal, 20 Jun 2016: First instance of dengue victim was reported from Vamadapadav, near here on Saturday June 19, as suspected cases of dengue are surging across Bantwal taluk.
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Chandrashekar Shetty, a resident of Kencharu, in the limits of Vamadapadav gram panchayat, near here. He was suffering from fever for a since a few days and was treated at the local primary health centre. Meanwhile, his condition worsened and was admitted in a hospital at Mangaluru, but passed away without responding to the treatment at the hospital on Saturday midnight.
35 cases detected
Although the health department has been taking precautionary measures, dengue cases surged to 35. The suspected cases of 172 cases were reported, said taluk health officer Dr Deepa Prabhu. The health department began fogging in the areas where dengue cases were reported. The health assistants and Asha activists are creating awareness through distributing handbills by door-to-visits to household families.
