Mangaluru, 13 April 2016: Keeping in mind the tragedy at the temple in Kollam, Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim called for a meet and discussed various security measures that organizers would have to abide by to prevent such incidents. The measures chalked out, would be applicable in Udupi too.
The meet was attended by officials in the police department and fire personnel.
The officials present chalked out the following measures:
* A committee headed by two assistant commissioners would check the seven fireworks manufacturing units in Mangaluru to see if they have taken preventive steps or not; a report for the same would have to be submitted within a week.
* The media will have to furnish details of all the fireworks manufacturing units so that people would be aware.
* Those dealing with fireworks would have to submit applications for renewing their licenses along with a NOC from concerned authorities stating that they were not selling anything illegal.
The Deputy Commissioner said that if anyone violated the measures, strict action would be taken.
AB Ibrahim said that the fireworks show that is supposed to be held at Lord Mahalingeshwara Temple on April 17 would go as planned, but would have to follow certain measures. There would be no stock of firecrackers, fencing would be done around the area, fire personnel would be present throughout and water would be sprayed soon after the show, only experts would be allowed to handle firecrackers and a neck would be attached to the tube well at the spot in case of an emergency.
