Mangaluru, 10 March 2016: With the road widening and concrete work progressing on the stretch between Pumpwell and Padil, authorities have restricted the movement on the highway to one-way from March 10.
Hence, all vehicles plying towards Padil and further from Pumpwell will have to go via Nanthoor, Bikarnakatte and Padil via the flyover. However, the highway will be open only for vehicles arriving from Padil towards Pumpwell. Buses towards Bajal and Jalligudde will either use the Nanthoor to Padil route or the route via Yekkur.
The temporary change in movement of vehicles is likely to put a strain on traffic at Nanthoor Circle as concreting of roads has been going on at Nanthoor as well, which has forced one-way traffic. In addition, vehicles going towards Udupi and Moodbidri too, use the same stretch. Similarly, as roads are being widened between Yekkur and Pumpwell, a similar story will be seen.
Since the rule came into force from today, traffic jams were witnessed at Pumpwell Circle. Several diversions and two-ways reduced to one-way are surely to put a strain on commuters.
