Mangaluru, 09 Nov 2015: Two cement-laden wagons of a goods train derailed on the Shiradi Ghat stretch between Yedakumeri and Siribagilu affecting rail traffic between Mangaluru and Hassan on Sunday night.
It is said that the goods train was on its way to Kallayi near Kozhikode in Kerala via Mangaluru when the incident occurred.
A breakdown special train from Mangaluru left for the accident spot at 8.40 p.m.
Consequently, Train Nos. 16518/16524 Kannur/Karwar-Bengaluru Express, scheduled to leave Mangaluru Central Station at 8.55 p.m. did not start as scheduled. The train left Mangaluru Central Station around 11 p.m. via Palakkad. It is running on “open timing”.
The derailment spot is not accessible by road and can be accessed through the railway tracks only and thus the operations to clear off the derailed wagons and restore the track will not be completed immediately.
A few months ago, the loco and two coaches of the Bengaluru night express train had derailed on the same stretch.
