Bantwal, 31 Oct 2015: The protest on Yettinahole project began in front of Sri Tirumala Venkanataramana temple by offering Bhagina to Netravati River, the lifeline of Dakshina Kannada district here on Friday October 30 night.
The Vedic celebrants Babacharya, Muralidar Bhat and Pratap Bhat performed the Vedic rites on the shore of Netravati River, while entrepreneur Laxman Baliga couple offered Bhagina to Netravati River.
The water sourced from Netravati River was ceremoniously brought in a procession to the venue.
The environmentalists Giridar Kamat and Dinesh Holla presented live demonstration and info on Yettinahole project.
Dinesh Holla said that it’s the project to make Dakshina Kannada district barren land forever. He urged the people of Dakshina Kannada to unite in waging struggle to save lifeline Netravati River.
The governing councils of Sri Tirumala Venkataramana temple, Mahalingeshwar temple and Sitarama temple, the parish council of Loretto, governing body of Jumma masjid–Kelaginapete, Lions Club/Rotary Club of Bantwal, voluntary and social welfare organizations, Bantwal merchants Association supported the struggle against Yettinahole project.
The environmentalist Rajamani Ramakuna, Khatib Ansar faizi, local leaders Manoor Laxman Kamat, Rameshanand Somayaji, Yogish Sapalya, Prakash Karant, Dr Vasant Baliga, Purushottam Shenoy, Ajay Kombrabail, Ganehs Suvarna, B Laxman Acchyut Baliga, Suresh Baliga and others were present.
Yashwant Gym chairman Narayan Kamat welcomed the gathering. The lecturer Vinayaka Pai compered the programme.
The shopkeepers in Bantwal town voluntarily closed their shops on Friday at 6.30pm in support of protest against Yettinahole project and partaken in the protest.
