Mangaluru, 22 Sep 2015: Renowned filmmaker and writer Sadananda Suvarna has been chosen for the annual prestigious Dr. Kota Shivaram Karanth Huttura Prashasti – 2015, which has been instituted by the Kotathattu Gram Panchayat and Karanth Birthplace Award Foundation, in memory of Jnanpith Award Winner late Kota Shivaram Karanth.
Addressing reporters on Monday, Kotothattu GP President H Pramod Hande said that Suvarna will be given with the award in recognition of his contribution to the Kannada and Tulu films as well as theatre and literature.
The award will be presented on Kota on October 10, which is the birth anniversary of Dr Karanth.
Producer of Swarna Kamal Award winning film ’Ghata Shradha’, Suvarna has also produced documentaries on Dr. Karanth.
The earlier recipients of the award are Union Petroleum Minister M. Veerappa Moily (2005), former Karnataka Lokayukta N. Venkatachala (2006), educationist K.R. Hande (2007), journalist and writer Ravi Belegere (2008), Yakshagana artiste Chittani Ramachandra Hegde (2009), filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli (2010), environmentalist Salumarada Thimakka (2011), theatre personality B. Jayashree (2012), educationist Mohan Alva (2013) and writer Jayant Kaikini (2014).
A 10-day long programme would be held as part of Shivaram Karanth’s birth anniversary at Kota from October 1 onwards.
The programmes include a children’s sahitya sammelan on October 1; dance programme on October 2; Tala Maddale ‘Sudhanva Kalaga’ on October 3; children’s cultural programme on October 4; teachers conference and State-level film festival based on Karanath’s novels on October 5; workshop for capacity building on October 6; farmers fest on October 7; demonstration on snakes on October 8, panchayat fest on October 9 and ‘Yaksha Natya Vaibhava’ on October 10.
