Mangaluru, 28 Aug 2015: The district-level meet on devising new National Education Policy was held at ZP auditorium, here on Thursday August 27.
Addressing the gathering, ZP president Asha Timmappa Gowda said that uniformity should begin from primary schools. Meanwhile, if the peoples representatives and government employees enroll their children in state-run schools, it would contribute for the growth of government schools, said Asha.
MLC Ivan D’Souza said that the National Education Policy has come up for revision after 30 years. It has to focus on carving better future and contribute for their all-round growth. It has to take into consideration the skills-based activities and positive growth, said MLC Ivan. He also expressed concern over declining quality of education owing to changes in exam patterns.
Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that National Education Policy has to be widely discussed by the people. The need of the hour is to teach human values and moral education. The marks should be set for art, culture and sports. The education should be in tune with children’s mental and physical growth. The children got to develop the spirit of asking questions and the teachers got to co-operate in this regard, said DC Ibrahim.
There are several private schools that have no basic facilities and are ridden with lapses. When compared to such schools, state-run schools are far better off. The children got to learn their family trades along with studies, added DC Ibrahim.
ZP education steering Committee president C K Chandrakala, ZP member Mamata Gatti, deputy secretary N R Umesh, assistant director Nagendra Madhyasta, DDPI Walter D’Mello and others were present.
Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana deputy project co-ordinator Geeta compered the programme.
