Karkal, 16 Aug 2015: A woman was rescued from an open well after nearly 18 hours by the locals being reported from Saccheripete in Mundkoor village, near here on Friday August 14 at 3.00pm.
An unmarried woman living alone in Koppala, Saccheripete, near here was shooing away the monkey that invaded her coconut farm accidentally fell in the well, but she managed to hold on to the pipe. Despite the incessant rains throughout Friday night, she survived till a Samaritan Moslem youngster rescued her on Saturday August 15.
The spinster had tied her cow to graze at the farm of neighbor Moslem youngster Shaikh Sanaulla on Friday morning. She used to take the cow back to her household every evening. As she did not come on Friday evening, Sanaulla took the cow and sheltered at his courtyard believing she was unwell.
Meanwhile, he arrived at her house to enquire on Saturday morning, when he could not find her. He searched around the yard and found a few coconuts lying on the ground. He peeped into the well and saw her holding unto the pipe.
He along with others lowered a solid basket into the well and she sat in it and pulled her to safety.
