Mangaluru, 25 Apr 2015: The national Panchayat Raj Day was celebrated at DK zilla panchayat auditorium here on Friday April 24. It was presided by zilla panchayat vice president Satish Kumpala.
The deputy secretary briefed the effects of Panchayat Raj Act of 1973 on the progress of rural villages.
Speaking on the occasion, DK zilla panchayat CEO Srividhya said that Panchayat Raj (the governance by the village councils is only found in India, while Karnataka ranks second in effective governance that would lead to realizing the dream of Mahatma Gandhi on rural empowerment, said Srividhya.
Satish Kumpala in his presidential address said that DK district has been functioning efficiently in Panchayat Raj. It has bagged several awards including Nirmal Grama awards, said Satish. He also recalled the contributions of department officials and peoples representatives in the prosperity of DK district.
DK zilla panchayat vice president, CEO, deputy secretary, project directors, chief project officer, assistant secretary, other officers and staff viewed national Panchayat Raj Day celebrations presided by PM in New Delhi in Doordarshan.
