Mangaluru, 30 Mar 2015: For the first time in the history of Karnataka state and Dakshina Kannada district, National Federation Cup - athletic meet will be organized in city from April 30 onwards. The preparations have picked up the speed as the third meeting was convened in this regard at Deputy Commissioner’s office on Sunday March 29, and it was decided to make it a grand success as only 30 days are remaining for the inaugural ceremony.
The meeting was chaired by the state minister for sports and youth affairs Abhayachandra Jain.
Athletics Federation of India secretary C K Vasan reviewed the preparations and advised DC A B Ibrahim, who is also the chief convener of all the Committees.
CM Siddaramaiah to inaugurate
As per the organizers, CM Siddaramaiah has consented to inaugurate the event and he is has been awarded the honour of chief patron. The event will be held for 3-days from May 1 to 3 most likely flood-lit event as the souring temperatures during the day may not permit athletes to perform their best.
About 750 athletes along with 200 officials are expected to take part in the event. As this will be an event to qualify for the Asian track and field events and World Championships, the celebrity athletes from all over the country are expected to take part.
Alvas Education Foundation® chairman Dr Mohan Alva has given the responsibility of organizing cultural shows, security arrangements will be taken care by SP Dr Sharanappa SD.
The logo of the event will be released in Bengaluru on Monday March 30.
The municipal authorities have already begun levelling Karavali Utsav grounds, where the athletes will have warm up sessions on 200 meter track.
The Dakshina Kannada Athletic Association president Dr Manjunath Bhandary briefed the preparations and progress in this regard.
The minister Jain assured full support from the government for the upcoming mega sports event in the city.
MLC Ivan D’Souza, Mangaluru north MLA Moideen Bawa, municipal commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapatti and SP Dr Sharanappa were present.
