Belthangady, 13 Dec 2014: The body of a 14-day-old baby who died on December 10 at Kanyadi near here was exhumed on Friday following a complaint of a suspected infanticide.
According to the police, the baby was born to a lady from Kanyadi outside wedlock, after she developed intimate relation with a local man. The lady had also filed a case against the lover in Belthanagdy police station after he refused to marry her.
However, the lady who delivered the infant two weeks ago stated that the baby died owing to illness on December 10 and body was buried by her parents without informing the police.
The Belthangady police who were informed about the incident on Friday registered an FIR and exhumed the body from the site and sent it to Deralakatte Hospital for post-mortem.
Puttur Sub Division Officer Basavaraj, Bantwal Additional Superintendent of Police Rahul Kumar, Belthangady Circle Inspector B R Lingappa were present.
