Udupi, 31 January 2010: Gone are the days when buses plying through Udupi district screen movies. As per a recent notification issued by district administration, TV sets are banned in the buses.
The decision has been taken in the backdrop of complaints that obscene scenes in the movies screened in some buses cause embarrassment to the women passengers. The journey is made nauseating with sounds and scenes that go uncensored. Even though some take pleasure in their travel with the entertainment offered in the buses, most of them seem to be disturbed.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, Deputy Commissioner Hemalatha informed that the step has been taken after receiving complaints from women folk regarding the discomfort. The films that are screened comprise obscene scenes that make women embarrassed. It is nuisance.
In fact public should get the delight of the trip in the midst of sightseeing experiences, she added. Arrangements have been made to make surprise visits to regulate the TV mess in the buses. The buses that go against the notification have to pay heavy fine, she said.
