Bantwal, Oct 15, 2014: The sleuths of DCIB and Vittal station nabbed a group of suspected burglars and recovered their car and lethal weapons, who were accused of plotting to burgle the homes of rich and lonely people in the neighbourhood of Vittal, at nearby Kepu Ashram School, near here on the wee hours of Tuesday October 14. The surprise operation has thwarted the imminent burglary.
The arrested has been identified as Asif Rehman and Sharif Aziz, both residents of Kushalanagar in Madikeri, Abdul Rehman and Purandar Naik, both residents of Puttur. Among the accused, Sharif has been booked for burglary in Moornadu police station, Madikeri. He is also booked by Goa police for looting the foreign tourists. Asif Rehman and Abdul Rehman had worked in Gulf for 4 years and are friends. The group was believed to be in the process of identifying the homes of rich and lonely residents in the neighbourhood of Vittal.
DCIB police, who gathered intelligence on the group, formed a team led by Bantwal ASP Rahul Kumar and circle inspector Belliappa in the instruction of SP Dr Sharanappa to nab the burglars.
On a sure tip-off, the police intercepted Maruti Omni at nearby Kepu Ashram School near here on Tuesday at the wee hours, and arrested the group. The police also seized the Omni, lethal weapons, face mask, packets of chilli powder, 5 mobile phones from the group.
DCIB assistant sub inspector Sanjeev Purusha and Vittal sub inspector Raghavendra T R, DCIB police Uday Rai, Palani Velu, Iqbal, Taranat, Vittal police personnel Praveen Rai, Janardhan, Rakshit Rai and Lokesh were involved in this operation.
