Mangalore, Oct 07, 2014: Kadri police team led by sub-inspector T D Nagaraj arrested a group of 5 persons who are involved in 7 cases of looting truck drivers at Maroli Jodukatte, here on the wee hours of Monday October 6.
Based on sure tip-off, Nagarajr along with PSI Rafiq and H S Bajantri checked on 2 Maruti Alto cars that are parked besides the national highway at Maroli, here and found 5 men inside. The police took them into custody on Monday at 3.30am, when the group was planning to waylay the long hauling trucks.
The accused have been identified as twenty-three-year-old Mohammad Azim alais Dilwale, resident of Farngipe, Pudu village, nineteen-year-old Ahmed Sadik alias Sadik, resident of Katipalla, twenty-three-year-old Nisar Husain of Katipalla, twenty-three-year-old Hasanabba alias Naushad and thirty-year-old Y Sasidar, resident of Tergase in Kundapur taluk.
The city police commissioner R Hitendra said hat they have seized 2 cars - an Alto, a Ritz, lethal weapons, 2 chilly powder packets, 4 mobile phones and Rs 12,750 in cash.
During the investigation it came to light that the gang was involved in 3 looting cases under the limits of Kadri police station, another looting case in Uppinangady near Udane, 2 looting cases at Shiradii, under the limits of Sakleshpur police station.
The group used rented cars with lethal weapons in it to loot the truck drivers and cleaners who used to park their vehicles next to the road by threatening and hurting them. They also used to wait on the National Highway and rob the drivers of long haulers from other states across the nation.
