Mangalore, 02 Oct 2014: Prime Minister of India gave a call for Swachh Bharat as mass movement to realize Gandhi’s dream of a clean India by the end of 2019 as a mark of his one-hundred-fiftieth birth anniversary. A nationwide campaign is organized with the participation of all sections of society to bring about mass awareness and a lasting behavioral change to achieve this goal.
As part of the above event, Airports Authority of India (AAI) has displayed banners and posters in and around the airport premises for the clean India drive and the importance and significance of cleaning.
An essay competition and slogan writing competition were also held for the AAI employees on Thursday October 2. Further garbage bins were placed in the airport premises as a part of cleanliness drive. Maintenance of sewage lines was taken place, water coolers were cleaned, an inspection to this effect also held at the city airport here on Thursday.
The pledge taking ceremony by AAI, Mangalore airport director J T Radhakrishna along with 150 employees of AAI and other agencies working at airport including general public also participated. Tree plantation even took place in front of terminal building. Senior officers of AAAI were involved in the plantation, The cleaning and dusting of the airport premises was done along with employees of AAI, CISF, airlines and all concessionaries working at airport including airport prepaid taxi operators for keeping the airport clean and tidy.
