Puttur, Sep 25, 2014: The department of journalism of St Philomena College, here organised a workshop on ‘Feature Writing’ at Prerana Hall, here on Saturday September 20.
Dr Narendra Rai Derla, freelance journalist and head of department of Kannada at Dr K Shivarama Karanth Government First Grade College was the resource person.
Dr Narendra said, ‘Media creates an environment where people get information and prepare them to take part in the democracy. It plays an important role in the democratic society. Press has earned the recognition of ‘fourth estate’. It is the responsibility of the journalist to maintain the principles in their writing. They should have personal sense of ethics and responsibility towards the society,’ said Dr Narendra. He further gave an insight about the various aspects of feature writing.
The College vice principal Professor Vishnu Bhat in his presidential address said that Journalism is gaining lot of importance. He called upon the students to make the best use of this course and grow as a good journalist.
