Puttur, 9 Sep 2014: The Yakshakala Kendra, Centre for study of Cultural Arts at St Philomena College, here was inaugurated during a function held at silver jubilee memorial hall, here recently.
The campus director and dhairman of PG Studies and Research Centre in his in augural address said, ‘Yakshagana is a vital cultural heritage. Therefore we have to protect and support the art to grow further.’
The guest of honor Bottigere Purushotham Poonja while addressing the gathering said, ‘There is research going on in Yakshagana and other related folk arts. It will not take too long to be focused on the centre stage. There are different types of cultural art depending on the region and language and each art has its own uniqueness.’
St Philomena College principal Professor Leo Norohna, in his presidential address said, ‘It is a welcome initiative taken by our college to support folk art like Yakshagana.’ He called upon all the students to make the best use of this.
St Philomena PU College principal Fr Vijay Lobo, head of department of Sanskrit Professor Dambe Eshwara Shastry were present at the dais.
After the formal function cultural programme was presented which portrayed the different form of cultural art.
Yakshakala Kendra convener Prashant Rai welcomed the gathering. The head of department of sociology Professor John B Sequeira proposed vote of thanks. Rakshith compered the programme.
