Mangalore, Sep 05, 2014: The state health minister U T Khader congratulated all the doctors of the state for the heart transplant performed on Wednesday September 3.
Addressing media conference at the circuit house here on Thursday September 4, the minister U T Khader further said that it was the best example how rules laid down by authorities can be streamlined and used for the better purpose. This transplant was possible only after the provision was made for forming local level Committees in the respective hospitals to approve the transplant 6 months ago. Earlier, there was a single state-level Committee for facilitating the transplant and the approval used to get delayed, said minister U T Khader.
The minor transplants have performed in the state but since it was the major one it got the attention of the media, added minister U T Khader.
The minister U T Khader further said, ‘At present, there are 5 hospitals in the state that have the provisions to undertake the transplant and any hospital with the required facilities and following government’s guidelines will be given such provisions. The Committee should comprise a retired judge, a government official along with the doctors of the respective hospitals,’ said minister U T Khader.
