Mangalore, Jul 22, 2014 : DYFI staged a sit-in in front of the city’s central railway station, here on Monday July 21, in order to urge Indian Railways to develop basic infrastructure facilities at Mangalore Central Railway Station.
Addressing the protesters, DYPI state president Muneer Katipalla said, ‘The people of the suburban Padil, here are at risk, with a level crossing across Padil – Bajal Road. The level cross has been sanctioned and civic body deposited 50 percent of cost of the works with railways. Meanwhile, the railways need additional of Rs 29 lac in this regard. The railways has to work swiftly in order to lay the level-crossing for safe passage,’ said Muneer.
Muneer further said that Mangalore Junction Railway Station has no ATM kiosks that are essential for passengers arriving from different parts of the country, as people fear train robbery. The cleanliness and hygiene at the toilets are worse besides platforms are ill maintained.
‘The agents queue up railway ticket counters blocking the availability of berths for genuine passengers at the railway station. The genuine passengers should get ticket first,’ said Muneer.
Muneer cautioned that DYFI will stage Rail Roko to press the railway authorities in fulfilling their demands, cautioned DYFI.
DYFI activists Imtiaz, Santosh Bajal, former corporator Jayanti B Shetty, Ashok B Shetty and others were present on the occasion.
