Udupi, Jul 12, 2014 : At the joint auspices of public health department of Manipal University, district department of health and family welfare, district department of animal husbandry and veterinary sciences, workshop on current challenges in rabies prevention and control was held at Manipal University campus, here on Saturday July 12.
Udupi zilla panchayat CEO Kanakavalli was the chief guest of the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Kanakavalli stressed on the need to control stray dogs. It is observed that a laboratory especially for rabies needs to be created and efforts would be made to set up such a lab in Udupi district.
Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences head of department of community medicine Professor Dr B J Mahendra in his keynote address stressed on the need to work together with veterinary colleagues. He also insisted on the need to manage reservoirs as an urgent priority.
Dr Shrikrishna Isloor spoke on the recent advances on rabies prevention. He also informed about the need to establish level 2 labs in more number in India.
Udupi district health officer (DMO) Dr Ramachandra Bairy and Dr Prabhulingu and others were present on the dais.
Manipal University head of department of public health Professor Dr Ramachandra Kamath, welcomed the gathering.
