Mangalore, 12 Jun 2014: At the onset of monsoon, the state authorities banned fishing using mechanized boats with inboard or outboard fixed engine of over 10 HP capacity in coastal Karnataka including Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, with effect from Sunday June 15 to Sunday August 10.
The district administration will take legal action on such fisheries boats that violate the ban and the owners themselves will be liable for any tragedy in rough sea. It will revoke state subsidies on diesel and other facilities in such cases.
The ban has been imposed in coastal Karnataka with the view of safety of all fishermen and urges the latter to strictly follow the same.
