South-West monsoon likely to set over Kerala on June 5

 

Mangalore, 17 May 2014: The south-west monsoon is likely to set over Kerala on June 5 with a model error of plus or minus four days. The normal onset of monsoon over Kerala is June 1, according to Indian Meteorological Department. Gandasi in Arsikere taluk of Hassan district recorded maximum rainfall of 27.5mm in the last 24-hours up to 8.30am on May 16.

 

Chincholi hobli in Chincholi taluk of Gulbarga district recorded maximum temperature of 39.9°C on May 15 at 2.30pm. Mungod hobli in Mundgod taluk of Uttara Kannada district recorded lowest minimum temperature of 15.9°C on May 16 from 6am to 6.30am. More than 90% relative humidity has been recorded in 37% geographical area in the state. Less than 25% of relative humidity has been recorded in 46% geographical area in the state.

 

Dry weather condition prevailed over the state. Moderate rain was recorded in two gram panchayats, very light rain in 10 gram panchayats and no rain in remaining 1,801 gram panchayats. The maximum temperature fell at few places over Coastal Karnataka and changed little over remaining parts of the state. The minimum temperature rose at isolated places over north interior Karnataka and Malnad region and changed little over remaining parts of the state.

 

Karnataka for the period May 10 to May 16 recorded deficit rainfall of 89%. Against normal weighted average rainfall of 17.3mm in south-interior, north-interior, Malnad and coastal parts, state recorded rainfall of 1.9mm. For 24-hours period ending 8.30am on May 16, four geographical regions received 0.1mm actual weighted average rainfall against normal weighted average rainfall of 3.2mm, a 98% deficit surplus departure from normal.
