Mangalore, 02 May 2014: Former deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa has demanded the resignation of minister for sports and youth empowerment K Abhaychandra Jain in the wake of his alleged threat over a journalist.
The minister on Friday had allegedly spoke arrogantly to a Kannada daily journalist, who called him to get his reaction on government’s stand with regard to the proposal of ultra mega power project at Niddodi in Moodbidri.
Eshwarappa told reporters that the minister should apologise for his remarks against the reporter and resign from his post. "If the minister does not apologise and resign, then chief minister Siddaramaiah should sack him from the ministry. Siddaramaiah should act against the minister if he has real concern towards journalists in the state.
Jain’s act is not only a shame on the government, but also a disgrace to all MLAs in the state," Eshwarappa said adding that the party will have to hold protest if action was not taken agains Jain.
He said that BJP state chief Prahlad Joshi will hold a meeting on May 7 to discuss about Jain’s issue. "A decision to hold protest will be taken by the party on May 7," he said expressing hopes that Jain would resign even before that.
